La Salle Boys Lacrosse nets 2OT thriller to take down #11 Garden City (NY)

Providence, RI - March 30th, 2024

All eyes of the national stage in High School Boys Lacrosse were on the defending State Champion La Salle Rams as they entered into Cimini Stadium this afternoon to take on the #11th Ranked Garden City (NY) Spartans.

The Spartans entered the game opening the season 3-0 and averaging 13 goals per game. Their defense, ranked one of the tops in the country had been surrendering only 5 goals per game and with the potent Rams offense, at home, led by the Peterson’s, the Rollo’s and Drew Bradley. Something between these two juggernauts was going to have to give.

The see-saw battle took more than the necessary 60 minutes as the two entered into overtime play knotted at 5-5. Though it was clear one period would not be enough. The 2nd OT proved too much for the Spartans as pipe ringer took a backwards bounce off the turf and found its way past Senior GK Denis Fargione.

The game-winner off the hammer of Senior Attacker Matt Hayes, sets the Rams on course for another trip to Cranston in a few months as they search for another record-breaking State Championship.

The last year the Rams failed to capture the Championship was 2011, making it 12 straight years and 14-times overall they have taken home the trophy.
