Boston Bruins Clinch a Spot in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs

For the eighth straight season, playoff hockey will be back at TD Garden. The Boston Bruins did not take to the ice on Thursday, but they clinched a spot in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs thanks to some help from the rest of the NHL.

How Did It Happen?

  • Boston needed either a Detroit Red Wings loss or a Philadelphia Flyers loss in regulation to punch its ticket to the postseason.

  • Jim Montgomery’s team ultimately received both results following Thursday’s slate of games, securing their playoff spot with eight games left in the regular season.

Current Standings:

  • Despite a recent 3-1 regulation loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Bruins still sit atop the Atlantic Division with 99 points.

  • They are currently tied with the Carolina Hurricanes for second place in the Eastern Conference, with the New York Rangers leading the pack with 100 points.

Looking Ahead:

  • The Bruins aim for a better postseason result compared to last year when they were eliminated in the first round by the Florida Panthers.

  • This spring, they have good fortune on their side. Boston can become the fifth team in the last six seasons to make it to the Stanley Cup Final after winning the Presidents’ Trophy in the previous campaign.

  • Their potential first-round matchup remains uncertain, but with six of their final eight games against playoff-bound teams, the Bruins are gearing up for an exciting postseason run.

Next up, a road matchup against the Washington Capitals on Saturday night. Playoff hockey is back in Boston, and the Garden will be buzzing once again!

Note: The Boston Bruins didn’t play a game on Thursday, but still managed to secure a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
